We have a thriving junior section and run sessions for children of school all ages.
Our cricket year Is split into two; our “winter nets” which usually starts after the Christmas break and take place in the Sports Hall at Highfields Upper School in Lumsdale and then, after the Easter break we move outside at Causeway lane for further training (hardball on Thursday evening and softball on Friday evening). Matches take place throughout the school summer term.

Kwik Cricket
Youngsters are encouraged to start playing in Kwik cricket matches as soon as the coaching team thinks they are ready. Typically this will be from the age of 8/9 (school year 3/4) but is determined by playing ability not strict age. There is no requirement to move onto this stage and the decision is always made by the child. Kwik cricket is played with plastic bats and soft rubber balls in teams of six.
Hardball Cricket
Once a child is competent at Kwik cricket we will start to introduce them to hardball cricket and only encourage them to participate once they are competent and confident. We run teams in the under 11/12/13/15 age groups of local youth cricket leagues.
Girls Only Cricket
We are proud to say that for the first time in 2025 we fielded “girls only” teams at Dynamos (U11), U12 and U14 age groups and with our girls now beginning to feature in the senior Ladies teams it adds a new dimension to ur thriving community club. 2026 will see the same commitment to girls and ladies cricket.
As well as practice sessions, the women and girls participate in softball festivals against other clubs. It’s a great way for mums to exercise with their daughters so why not give it a try. More details can be obtained by contacting us through matlockcricket@gmail.com
